Agadir and Taghazout, sun and surf
The great seaside resort of the south: a long sandy beach, sunshine almost all year round, and twenty kilometres away the surfers' village of Taghazout.
- Agadir was rebuilt after the 1960 earthquake: it is a modern city.
- The beach and the promenade are the centre of life.
- Taghazout, to the north, is where the surfers gather.
What to see
Agadir beach stretches for several kilometres, lined by a promenade. Above the city, the remains of the Agadir Oufella kasbah give a view over the bay.
Souk El Had is one of the largest covered markets in the country: you will find spices, argan oil and crafts there.
To the north, the coast road leads to Taghazout and its surf spots. Inland, Paradise Valley is a classic walk among palm trees and natural pools.
Getting there from Tangier
Agadir is reached by plane, or by road from Marrakech in about three hours. From Tangier, flying is the quickest option.
When to go
All year round. Winter is mild there, which makes it a cold-season destination.
How long to plan
Three days or more for a beach stay.
